Pose or Poise

Posing for a picture has become an intuitive response of our behavior when placed in front of a camera. But this very simple act of posing does have it’s own definition when studied under the banner of fashion industry. We have seen fashion photography as a re ection of the photographer’s style. The poses in the photographs that can only be known as Art are quite a controversy when analyzed based on ethical and creative grounds.

The twister here is if the picture is meant to compliment a garment/accessory or a brand, then shouldn’t the pose be natural. Whereas today, the model becomes an object of the background creating a artful frame with least reality. When Audrey Hepburn dressed in the most iconic Givenchy was captured in the movie ‘Think Pink’, her attempts to provide the best poses scaled the hearts of millions. And today, carelessly maximum of Vogue India 2017 covergirls were portrayed in the exact same pose month after month.

In my opinion, it has become a necessity to create and not just recreate today. Having said that the possibilities are endless as a photograph can never be objectified because the essence of each element in it will always be portrayed no matter how much it is suppressed. So it will always be a new day, new body, new pose, new poise.
