What It’s Like To Write About Writing!

When I was at university, the course I studied explored multiple possible branches from photography to designing and much more. A few months into the foundation year, I realised that a lot of these possibilities excited me. So I began to explored a few of them in depth by taking up freelance projects and dedicating my off-term time to internships. And finally after much effort and partial secrecy, I realised that writing was my strong game. Partial secrecy I say for I would quietly take in all compliments from my peers about the quality of my writing without ever confessing how I too, like them, wrote it the night before the deadline. After all, I too enjoyed procrastination and Netflix!

However, I would use the couple hours before sunrise for editing my write ups rather than to get a little snooze. Last minute work or not, I was always keen on delivering quality content which then transferred into my work ethic. As I began working as a features writer at a magazine, I realised how the practice of producing top level work worked in my favour. My editor has fewer edits to do and I had fewer feedback to rework on. As deadlines shortened and deliverables became familiar, it all began to fall into place quite effortlessly. And then I had the most exciting thought of it all! “One day, I would like to become a published author,” I said.

This ambitious thought followed a long trail of contemplating and mind mapping. But I was eager to just get started and see where it takes me. And so, that is exactly what this blog post is about- a start! I will be documenting my journey as a writer in the industry with reference to writers on screen. Be it in movies or OTT platform series, I have often spotted a character who plays the role of a writer truly influencing the events in the story. Their presence is neither subtle nor loud, but particularly relevant and game changing. So join me on this train of thought with a capacity for unheard opinions.
